iPhone and iPad apps on Apple M1 Macs

2020-12-05

I've previously expressed my concerns about Apple's way of making iOS apps (iPhone and iPad) just available on the Mac App Store for the new Apple Silicon Macs running macOS Big Sur. Developers had to opt-out to not make them available.

Now when the first M1 Macs are out, my concerns have eased a bit. Apple will have a curated section with a selection of "good" iOS apps for the Mac, and for every other app, you have to manually set a filter to show them.

I think this is a good approach. I've much preferred if Apple made developers opt-in, and only the really well-tuned apps were made available.

But hey, I guess it's all okay.
